- Anupam Mittal – Founder, Shaadi.com
- Namita Thapar – Executive Director, Emcure Pharmaceuticals
- Amit Jain – Co-founder & CEO, CarDekho Group
- Ritesh Agarwal – Founder & Group CEO, OYO
At the start of episode 5, Aditya Kulshrestha, the host of Shark Tank India, came into the hall and told the Sharks that there was going to be a match-off between two jewellery brands: one run by a young female founder named Arushi Jain and the other run by two experienced male founders named Darayus Mehta and Parin Shah. Both brands would get one hour each to make their pitch, and once the pitches were over, the Sharks would get five minutes each to offer deals to both entrepreneurs.
A coin toss took place between both pitchers, and Arushi won the toss, after which she opted to pitch first while Darayus and Parin waited outside for their turn.
Pitch 1: EMORI
- Brand Type: Diamond Jewellery Brand
- Founder: Arushi Jain
- Ask: ₹75 lakhs for 1% equity
Arushi from Gurugram made a pitch for her diamond jewellery brand named Emori. She said that her company makes lab-grown diamonds which have a resale value of 90%. Arushi also gifted some customised diamond jewellery to the Sharks. Aman Gupta raised a concern, saying that he had heard that lab-grown diamond prices fall rapidly, and Arushi replied that it is a myth and that prices have stabilised.
Arushi said that her brand’s biggest competitor is a company named Limelight. She further said that her brand has one offline store and that 58% of sales come from that store, while the remaining 42% comes from online channels. Namita Thapar praised the designs of Emori’s jewellery, and Arushi told her that the brand’s repeat rate is 12% in 12 months.
The price of a 1-carat lab-grown diamond at Emori, as per Arushi, is ₹32,000. She also gave a demo of her brand’s website to the Sharks, and Aman found the design of the website boring and said that Arushi seems weak at storytelling. It turns out that Emori has not raised any funding yet and is completely bootstrapped.
Finally, the one-hour time limit allotted to Arushi Jain for her pitch got over, and then the True Diamond founders entered the Shark Tank hall to make their pitch.
Pitch 2: True Diamond
- Brand Type: Diamond Jewellery Brand
- Founders: Darayus Mehta and Parin Shah
- Ask: ₹1.08 crores for 1% equity
Two entrepreneurs named Parin and Darayus made a pitch for their diamond jewellery brand named True Diamond, which, as per their claim, specialises in making Portuguese-cut diamonds and is India’s finest designer rings brand. Darayus started the pitch by proposing to Namita Thapar with a diamond ring made by True Diamond, going down on one knee.
Darayus and Parin revealed to the Sharks that they have raised funding of almost ₹33 crores from other investors so far. Darayus said that their brand’s current positioning is “content-first, innovative rings specialist.”
Aman Gupta did not like the designs of some of their rings. They revealed that their brand’s average order value is ₹1 lakh. After this, Darayus and Parin told the Sharks about their revenue numbers and sales split, adding that they are an online-first brand.
Offers Made to Both Brands After Match-off Ended
After the end of the match-off, Arushi as well as Darayus and Parin entered the Shark Tank hall again, and both brands were offered deals by the Sharks.
