Super-soldier sci-fi action venture Attack, which was released last Friday in theatres worldwide, has been completely demolished by the tsunami of the Tollywood film RRR in the Hindi belts. Even after securing a strong screen count of about 2,400 screens at launch, the Lakshya Anand Raj directorial emerged as a super flop. Now, the acting career of John Abraham appears to be in clear danger, as Attack is his second flop in a row following the failure of his previous film, Satyameva Jayate 2, at the box office in India.
One thing is clearly evident: there is no way Attack is going to recover its ₹95-crore budget from its theatrical run, the amount spent on making it. Now, everything depends on the OTT deal the producers may secure in the coming days. However, even OTT platforms might not offer much for this movie, as it has performed quite poorly at the box office.
Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandez is also receiving a lot of criticism for her poor acting performance in Attack. Her role in the film didn’t add much and seemed like a filler just to increase the overall run time. On the other hand, Rakul Preet Singh has received a lot of praise for her role as the nerdy lab scientist Saba Qureshi.
The makers made a big blunder by releasing Attack at a time when S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR was absolutely dominating the box office. It would have been better if they had waited at least two to three more months, as right now, any Bollywood film would face the same fate, with a couple more big Tollywood ventures about to be released soon.
This RoboCop-style B-town venture failed to improve even on Wednesday. Attack’s sixth-day overall occupancy rate across India has been estimated at around 5%–12%, which is shameful. This is a clear sign for Bollywood filmmakers that people will not support low-quality content anymore, as star power doesn’t matter nowadays and quality content is king.
The 6th day (Wednesday) collection of Attack in India is ₹1.40 crores.
