In the opening four days, Jersey made a box office collection of only ₹17.65 crores, and with each passing day, the film’s box office business is facing a steep decline. Even talented actors like Shahid Kapoor and Pankaj Kapoor failed to save this film, but it is not the actors’ fault by any means. Director and writer Gowtam Tinnanuri is the one who should be blamed, as he copied the entire original 2019 Telugu version scene by scene without adding anything extra to its plot.
Newcomer actress Mrunal Thakur, who started her Bollywood career just a few years ago after leaving the ITV industry, will face the negative impact of Jersey flopping. Although Mrunal has given a wonderful performance in this film, portraying Shahid’s on-screen wife Vidya, most of the time, makers in this industry tend to make someone a scapegoat after their films flop, and Mrunal might suffer this time.
The tsunami of KGF 2 is continuously hurting Jersey in the Hindi belts of India. The film has already lost more than 1,000 screens; earlier, around 2,450 screens were allotted to Jersey at its release, but now almost 1,000 of those have been transferred to KGF 2 by single-screen owners. If this downward trend continues for Jersey, it will lose even more screens in the coming days.
Once again, on April 26, 2022, Jersey was overshadowed by KGF 2 at the Indian box office. Young audiences and even senior citizens appeared more inclined towards the Yash-starrer than the Bollywood remake. The Day 5 overall occupancy rate of Jersey in India has been estimated at around 15%–25%, which is very low. Considering the fact that this film is currently running on a limited number of screens, there is little hope left for its business in the coming days.
The 5th day (Tuesday) collection of Jersey in India is approximately ₹1.35 crore.
