Ramayana 2026 Film Trailer Raises Serious Questions: ₹4000 Crore Budget or a Money Laundering Scam

The trailer for the most expensive film in Indian cinema history to date, Ramayana, was finally unveiled at midnight on July 30, 2026. The launch of this 4-minute-long clip has raised serious questions about whether the highly talked-about ₹4000 crore budget was actually used in the making of this film or whether it is a money laundering scam.

Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi play the main leads of Prabhu Shree Ram and Sita Mata, while Yash plays the character of Ravana and Rakul Preet Singh appears as Ravana’s sister Surpanakha.

The problem lies in its poor VFX quality and abundance of AI-generated content. Many of the scenes look as if you are watching something created on an early-generation model of ChatGPT.

Another major issue is the poor selection of outfits. Some characters can be seen wearing modern sarees, suggesting that a very average design team was hired to select the clothes for the actors. These outfits do not justify the era in which this epic saga of Ramayana took place.

In some scenes it appears that the battles are taking place in front of poor-quality green screens rather than on actual sets. With such a high amount of money in the makers’ hands, something seems very fishy.

Recently, Christopher Nolan’s Hollywood blockbuster The Odyssey was released in cinemas worldwide. It was made with a budget of ₹2,400 crore, nearly half the amount proclaimed to have been spent on the making of Ramayana. The quality is on a whole other level, and it feels embarrassing to compare it with Ramayana.

Only director Nitesh Tiwari or the producers of Ramayana can explain where all those big bucks have been spent. In our opinion, this is a ₹1000 crore to ₹1200 crore budget film at best, and even that is a bit of a stretch.
