Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh starrer Indian female spy action thriller Alpha has been released in theatres worldwide on July 3, 2026. It has turned out to be a complete disaster based on first previews and initial impressions. Expectations were quite high, but the film now seems set to put the future of YRF’s spy universe under massive risk.
After the release of India’s biggest blockbuster two-part spy thriller Dhurandhar, it appears that directors in India need to think ten times before attempting another spy action film, especially one with female actors in the lead roles.
Biggest Problems with the Film:
The biggest issue with Alpha is that its lead actress Alia Bhatt does not look believable in the role of an Indian spy. Watching a 5 feet 3 inches tall girl fighting against ten 6-feet-tall guys at the same time looks funny rather than badass. It literally feels like a Pokemon like Pikachu battling against Charizard, and we all know that is next to impossible even in the Pokemon universe.
Alia needs to stick to romantic roles or social dramas like Gangubai, rather than doing action films, because she is no Charlize Theron or Gal Gadot. Someone like Kriti Sanon would have been a better fit for this role.
Another big problem is the film’s predictable plot. It follows the same old YRF formula where an Indian agent goes rogue and then other Indian agents who have formerly worked with him are sent to capture him and end his evil plans. YRF still fails to understand that no matter how you repackage shit as a chocolate brownie, it will still smell and taste like shit.
The third biggest issue is the sidelining of the other lead actress Sharvari Wagh. It appears she has been cast just as eye candy, as even her fight scenes are not well choreographed. Fans were more excited to see Sharvari than Alia, but the nepo baby has completely eaten up Sharvari’s screen time. This will leave many of Sharvari’s fans disappointed.
Bobby Deol’s fake Haryanvi accent is also a major drawback. It seems he has lost all the aura he gained from his silent role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. It would be better for Bobby to focus on silent roles going forward, because dialogue delivery appears to be his Achilles’ heel.
The songs of the film are hot garbage, and now we understand why YRF was not promoting them on social media platforms before the release, unlike their other spy thrillers.
What’s Good in the Film:
Hrithik Roshan’s cameo appearance is the only saving grace of the film. But even with his short screen time, he completely fails to save what has been a hot mess made by YRF. If you are a big-time Hrithik fan, then only you can take the risk of watching this film.
Final Verdict:
In our opinion, YRF wanted to do a female spy thriller just to endorse the woke modern-day agenda of women empowerment. But to be frank, in the entire Bollywood industry, no actress is apt for a role like this. After disasters like Naam Shabana, Akira, and Dhaakad, Alpha is just another addition to the list.
- Our rating for Alpha: 0.5/5 (and this too only because of Hrithik’s cameo)
