On todays episode of WWE NXT a Women’s Number One Contender Battle Royal took place at the show kick off to determine the next challenger who will face Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship. Johnny Gargano attacked Damian Priest, Tommaso Ciampa was featured in a competitive match against Jake Atlas. The odd pairing of Roderick Strong and Danny Burch teamed up against Fabian Achnier and Raul Mendoza in a tag team match. Number One Contender Gauntlet Eliminator Match happened in the main event to determine the next challenger for Finn Balor.
WWE NXT 24 September 2020 Winners and Losers
1. NXT Women’s Championship Number One Contender Battle Royal
Winner – Candice LeRae
Rhea Ripley made the first elimination as she eliminated Gia after which Raquel Gonzalez eliminates Raven. Rhea Ripley gets two more eliminations after that. Raquel gets her third and fourth eliminations not to be outdone by Rhea before Rhea gets her fourth elimination. Raquel and Rhea have done all of the eliminating in the match to this point as we went into the commercial break.
Back from the break, Kacy Catanzaro having been knocked out of the ring and over onto the barricade before Kayden Carter tries to help Kacy who gets eliminated by Raquel Gonzalez. Kacy gets back into the ring before Rhea and Raquel exchange strikes before Rhea hits a head scissors over the top rope and both got eliminated.
Shotzi Blackhear nearly eliminates Candice LeRae on one side while Kacy Caatanzaro eliminates Indi Hartwell. Dakota Kai and Candice LeRae double team on Kacy and Kacy gets eliminated by Kai before Kai and LeRae team up against Shotzi Blackheart. Shotzi eliminates Kai out of nowhere. It then comes down to Candice and Shotzi as the final two before Shotzi and Candice end up on the stairs before Candice last eliminates Shotzi and picks up the win.
After the match ends, Io Shirai helps Shotzi Blackheart in getting up.
2. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Jake Atlas Singles Match
Winner – Tommaso Ciampa
Loser – Jake Atlas
Jake Atlas ducks a cheapshot by Tommaso Ciampa after which Atlas lands a flurry of strikes. Ciampa almost hits Willow’s Bell but Atlas avoids it and pulls Ciampa out of the ring. Atlas stomps Ciampa. Atlas tries to slingshot Ciampa’s throat into the metal frame of the ring (the same attack Ciampa employed the last time they met) but Ciampa slithers away. Ciampa surprises Atlas with a lariat. Ciampa whips Atlas into the ring post. Atlas explodes out of the corner with an elbow strike.
Inverted atomic drop by Jakes Atlas to Tommaso Ciampa. Atlas lands a high angle dropkick. Atlas blasts Ciampa with a pump kick to the face. Atlas lands a moonsault to the outside. Atlas hits a blockbuster off the top. Ciampa kicks out. Atlas tries his patented cartwheel DDT but Ciampa takes out Atlas’ plant arm, causing Atlas to fall to the mat. Ciampa hits Willow’s Bell. Instead of pinning Atlas, Ciampa picks him up and lands the Fairytale Ending getting the win.
3. Roderick Strong and Danny Burch vs. Fabian Achnier and Raul Mendoza Tag Team Match
Winners – Roderick Strong and Danny Burch
Losers – Fabian Achnier and Raul Mendoza
Danny Burch and Roderick Strong take an early advantage. Burch traps Raul Mendoza in the corner and lands a few strikes. Mendoza flips out of Burch’s backbreaker attempt. Mendoza tries a leapfrog but Burch picks Mendoza’s leg out of the air. Burch goes up top. Mendoza grabs Burch’s foot and yanks him off the turnbuckle. Burch hits the mat hard as we went into the break.
Back from the break, Raul Mendoza and Fabian Achnier were taking turns working over Danny Burch. Burch manages to tag in Roderick Strong. Strong clears the ring. Strong gets a near fall after an Olympic slam. Burch hits the Tower of London on Mendoza getting the win.
Kushida refuses to release the submission hold on Austin Theory after the match. Kushida eventually releases the hold.
4. Damian Priest vs. Austin Theory Singles Match
Winner – Damian Priest
Loser – Austin Theory
Damian Priest sends Austin Theory flying with an arm drag. Theory and Priest lock up again. Theory lands a nasty back elbow. Priest walks the ropes, old school style, and hits a crossbody. Theory trips Priest into the middle rope. Theory stomps the back of Priest head. Belly-to-back suplex by Theory as Theory went for the cover but Priest kicks out at one.
Clothesline followed by a standing moonsault by Austin Theory and he went for the cover again but Damian Priest kicks out again. Priest tries a springboard but Theory pushes him off the ropes. Priest hits the floor hard as we head into the break.
Back from the break, Daamian Priest lands a falcon arrow and he went for the pin but Austin Theory kicks out. Theory hits a torture rack/blue thunder bomb for another near fall. Priest lands a cyclone kick outside the ring. Priest crushes Theory with a Razor’s Edge on the apron. Priest hits the Reckoning getting the win over Theory.
After the match ends, Johnny Gargano attacked Damian Priest.
5. Ridge Holland vs. Antonio De Luca Singles Match
Winner – Ridge Holland
Loser – Antonio De Luca
Antonio De Luca attacks Ridge Holland but none of his attacks had any effect. Holland tosses De Luca clear across the ring. Suplex by Holland. Holland hits another suplex. Holland headbutts De Luca over and over again. Holland hits his finisher getting the win over De Luca.
6. Number One Contender Gauntlet Eliminator Match: Kyle O’Reilly vs. Kushida vs. Bronson Reed vs. Cameron Grimes vs. Timothy Thatcher
Winner – Kyle O’Reilly
Loser – Kushida, Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes and Timothy Thatcher
WWE NXT 24 September 2020 All Segments Updates
1. Backstage, Damian Priest says that he isn’t worried about Johnny Gargano at Takeover. Priest puts over his opponet tonight Austin Theory, but it doesn’t matter how good Theory may be. Priest will still come out on top.
2. Backstage, Johnny Gargano sucks up to Austin Theory. Gargano tells Theory that if he softens up Priest he won’t forget it.
3. Backstage, Candice LeRae and Johnny Gargano interrupted an Io Shirai interview. Gargano gets in Shirai’s face. Damian Priest walks in and attacked Gargano.
