WWE NXT 17 September 2020 Results, Shotzi Blackheart earns Io Shirai’s respect Written Details

On todays action packed episode of WWE NXT we saw Io Shirai facing Shotzi Blackheart in the opening match of the show. Tommaso Ciampa makes his intentions clear by destroying Desmond Troy. Breezango defends their tag titles against IMPERIUM in a rematch. William Regal makes an important announcement. Austin Theory throws an open challenge which was later accepted by Kushida and Damian Priest defends the NXT North American Title against Timothy Thatcher in the main event.

WWE NXT 17 September 2020 Winners and Losers

1. Io Shirai vs. Shotzi Blackheart Singles Match

Winner – Io Shirai

Loser – Shotzi Blackheart

Shotzi Blackheart tries to shake Io Shirai’s hand but Shirai slaps Blackheart’s hand away. Blackheart and Shirai trade pin attempts but neither woman managed to get a three count. Blackheart rolls Shirai into a modified rings of Saturn after which Blackheart misses a baseball slide. Shirai lands a moonsault off the apron on Blackheart and went for the pin but Blackheart kicks out as we went into the commercial break.

Back from the break, Shotzi Blackheart drops Io Shirai with a bulldog followed by a Knee strike by Blackheart to Shirai. Blackheart and Shirai trade strikes. Shirai reverses Blackheart’s double chicken wing into the crossface but Blackheart manages to get her foot on the ropes.

Shotzi Blackheart surprises Io Shirai with a senton into the ropes after which Blackheart lands a modified German suplex. Blackheart floats over into cattle mutilation. Shirai rolls through to escape. Missile dropkick by Shirai as shhe went for the pin but Blackheart kicks out. Shirai goes up top. Blackheart cuts her off and hits a top rope ranna and she goes for the cover but Shirai kicks out. Blackheart tries a Yoshi Tonic but Shirai counters and hits a German on the apron. Blackheart somehow kicks out. Shirai lands her moonsault off the top but she undershoots it. Shirai’s knees Blackheart in the gut in the process after which Shirai pins Blackheart for the win.

After the match ends, Io Shirai helps Shotzi Blackheart in getting up.

2. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Desmond Troy Singles Match

Winner – Tommaso Ciampa

Loser – Desmond Troy

This was basically another squash match to further solidify Tommaso Ciampa return as a heel. Ciampa knees Desmond Troy in the face instead of giving him a clean break. Ciampa pummels Troy before hitting Willow’s Bell DDT pinning him up for the win.

After the end of this match Tommaso Ciampa grabs a chair. Jake Atlas walks out on the stage and challenges Ciampa to a match next week. Ciampa laughs.

3. Austin Theory vs. Kushida Singles Match

Winner – Kushida

Loser – Austin Theory

Kushida was all over Austin Theory at the start of the match. Kushida tries to work an armbar. Theory escapes and hits a suplex. Theory misses a standing moonsault. Kushida fires up and lands a series of moves, capped off with a handspring kick. Kushida slams Theory’s arm into the ring post. Kushida slams his full body weight on Theory’s arm outside the ring. Kushida stomps Theory’s face before locking in the Hoverboard Lock after which Theory taps out immediately.

Kushida refuses to release the submission hold on Austin Theory after the match. Kushida eventually releases the hold.

4. Breezango vs. IMPERIUM NXT Tag Team Championship Match

Winners – Breezango

Losers – IMPERIUM

Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner attacked Tyler Breeze and Fandango before the match starts. As the bell rings Barthel and Aichner cut off the ring and work over Fandango for an extended period of time as we went into the commercial break.

Back from the break, Fandango flattens Marcel Barthel with a surprise lariat. Breeze tags in and clears the ring. Barthel pushes Breeze off the top rope right into Fabian Aichner’s waiting arms. Aichner suplex Breeze. Barthel and Aichner try the same move again outside the ring. Fandango pulls Breeze off of Aichner’s shoulders and superkicks both members of IMPERIUM. Fandango misses his top rope leg drop. Barthel and Aichner set up the European Bomb. Fandango dropkicks Aichner causing Breeze to crash into Barthel, pushing him off the top rope. Breeze rolls Aichner up with a ranna picking up the win and retaining the titles.

5. Jessi Kamea and Xia Li vs. Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter Tag Team Match

Winners – Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter

Losers – Jessi Kamea and Xia Li

Xia Li and Kayden Carter lock up and exchange submission holds. Li misses a front kick. Carter and Kacy Catanzaro double team Li, Catanzaro trips Li as Carter hits a basement dropkick. Catanzaro caps off the flurry with a cannonball senton for a near fall. Jessi Kamea tags in and ends up eating stereo kicks from Catanzaro and Carter. Catanzaro gets trapped in the opposite corner. Li and Kamea take turns working over Catanzaro. Catanzaro manages to tag in Carter. Carter clears the ring. Carter superkicks everyone. Catanzaro and Carter hits a pump kick into a crucifix bomb/prawn hold picking up the win.

After the end of this match, Xia Li refuses to shake hands.

6. The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong) vs. Drake Maverick and Killian Dain Tag Team Match

Winners – Drake Maverick and Killian Dain

Losers – The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong)

Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong beatdown Drake Maverick. Maverick tries to fight back but can’t get any extended offense going. Killian Dain was shown watching the match from the backstage area. Dain was pointing and laughing with a few others as we went into the commercial break.

Back from the break, Killian Dain walks down to the ring. Dain tells Maverick to get up and lose like a man. As Dain was leaving, Roderick Strong calls him fat. Dain turns around and attacks Strong and Bobby Fish. Fish eventually grabs a chair and hits Dain to cause a DQ.

After the end of this match, Drake Maverick tries to celebrate. Killian Dain floors Maverick with a right hand.

7. Damian Priest (c) vs. Timothy Thatcher NXT North American Championship Match

Winner – Damian Priest

Loser – Timothy Thatcher

Timothy Thatcher works an armbar on Damian Priest but Priest counters it with an arm drag. Thatcher was surprised. Priest takes Thatcher over with another arm drag. Thatcher gets to his feet and reverses into a side headlock. Thatcher escapes and runs over Thatcher with a shoulder block. Thatcher headbutts Priest’s arm. Priest tries a slingshot but Thatcher catches him with a European uppercut. Priest was favoring his arm. Thatcher and Priest fight to the outside. Thatcher lands a butterfly suplex out on the flooras we went into the commercial break.

Back from the break, Timothy Thatcher and Damian Priest trade strikes. Priest turns Thatcher inside out with a lariat. Tossing falcon arrow by Priest as he went for the pin but Thatcher kicks out. Priest misses springboard senton. Thatcher tries to lock-in the Fujiwara Armbar. Priest manages to avoid the hold. Thatcher picks Priest’s leg and eventually locks in a single leg crab. Priest kicks his way out of the hold. Thatcher counters Priest’s punch with the Fujiwara Armbar. Priest gets to the ropes. Priest lands a spinning heel kick off the top. Priest drops Thatcher with his finisher picking up the win.

WWE NXT 17 September 2020 All Segments Updates

1. Backstage, Finn Bálor says now that he is NXT Champion it’s the most important championship in the world.

2. Austin Theory comes to the ring and says that Bronson Reed’s win last week was a fluke. Theory puts out an open challenge to anyone in the back. Kushida power walks down to the ring and attacks Theory.

3. Backstage, Killian Dain tells Drake Maverick that he never said he would be his partner. Dain tells Maverick good luck tonight. Maverick shrugs it off and makes his way to the ring.

4. Tommaso Ciampa attacks Jake Atlas in the parking lot. Kyle O’Reilly convinces Ciampa to stop. Kyle O’Reilly tells Ciampa to save it for in the ring next week.

5. Commissioner William Regal announces a number one contender for the NXT Championship will be decided via a new match. The Gauntlet Eliminator.
