by Keith Lee the new double champ of NXT defended his title for the first time after winning it at last week as he went against Dominik Dijakovic also Robert Stone and Aliyah interfered during the match between Blackheart and Hartwell. Damian Priest makes it clear that he has his eyes on the NXT Gold now and Dakota Kai once again shined as a heel as she surprised Io Shirai tonight catching her completely off guard.
WWE NXT 16 July 2020 Winners and Losers
1. Damian Priest vs. Cameron Grimes Singles Match
Winner – Damian Priest
Loser – Cameron Grimes
Dammian Priest crushes Cameron Grimes with a Razor’s Edge on the ring apron. Flatliner by Priest. Grimes kicks out. Grimes reverses Priest’s finish. Spinning crossbody by Grimes. Priest kicks out. Priest and Grimes trade strikes. Grimes misses the Cave In yet again and ends up getting tied up in the ropes. Priest hits a rope assist Reckoning for the win. After the match, Priest looks into the camera and says that Lee had his moment and he will be watching to see who comes out on top tonight.
2. Shotzi Blackheart vs. Indi Hartwell Singles Match
Winner – Indi Hartwell
Loser – Shotzi Blackheart
Robert Stone limps down to the ring and distracts the referee. Aliyah hops the barricade and pushes Indi Blackheart off the top rope. Shotzi Blackheart slams into the mat back first. Hartwell blasts Blackheart with a running boot for the win.
3. Keith Lee (c) vs. Dominik Dijakovic Singles Match for North American and NXT Championship Match
Winner – Keith Lee
Loser – Dominik Dijakovic
Keith Lee launches Dominik Dijakovic in the air for a sky-high spinebuster. Lee picks up Dijakovic for the Big Bang Catastrophe. Dijakovic tries to elbow his way out of it but Lee powers Dijakovic over and obliterates him with his signature finishing move picking up the victory. After the match, Lee helps Dijakovic up. Lee and Dijakovic hug. The lights go out. A spotlight appears on the ramp. Scarlett is standing there holding a bag. Scarlett saunters down to the ring. Scarlett empties the back in the ring. It’s the remnants of the clock Lee destroyed weeks ago.
4. Timothy Thatcher vs. Denzel Dejournette Singles Match
Winner – Timothy Thatcher
Loser – Denzel Dejournette
Timothy Thatcher tries to flip Denzel Dejournette into a crab. Dejournette lands a few up kicks. Thatcher powers Dejournette over and locks in a combined single leg crab/heel lock. Dejournette taps out immediately. After the match, Thatcher locks Dejournette back in the same hold. Lorcan runs down to the ring and makes the save.
5. Io Shirai (c) vs. Tegan Nox NXT Women’s Championship Match
Winner – Io Shirai
Loser – Tegan Nox
Tegan Nox flattens Io Shirai with the Molly-Go-Round. Shirai somehow kicks out. Nox sets up the Shiniest Wizard. Shirai blocks it with a rising palm strike. Shirai lands her finishing Moonsault for the win. As Io Shirai makes her way up the ramp, Dakota Kai boots her in the face. Kai stands over Shirai and peers into the ring, locking eyes with her former best friend Tegan Nox.
WWE NXT 16 July 2020 All Segments Updates
1. Keith Lee came to the ring and crowd started a bask in his glory chant. Lee says he loves that but he likes something a bit more. Lee asks the ring announcer to introduce him again, which she does. Lee says he is at a crossroads. The past few months have been trying. Now, Lee is the North American and NXT Champion. Lee has celebrated but now it’s time to get back to reality. Lee knows there are many deserving people in the back who want a shot. Lee acknowledges that he isn’t a self-made man. He didn’t do this alone. His trainer was like a father to him. Lee wouldn’t be where he is today without him. Lee couldn’t have done this without the NXT Universe. There is one more person who played a pivotal part in all of this. Lee knows this person is at a crossroads as well. Lee wants to have a conversation with Dominik Dijakovic. Dijakovic joins Lee in the ring. Dijakovic says no one is more proud of Lee than he is but this is Lee’s moment. Lee says no, this is about Dijakovic as well. Lee’s conflicts with Dijakovic helped propel him into the spotlight. Lee spoke to Commissioner Regal and Regal agreed that the first challenger for both titles. Dijakovic is in. Lee wants to do it tonight. Dijakovic is in.
2. Backstage, Timothy Thatcher teaches another class of Thatchers-Catch-Can. Thatcher reenacts putting Oney Lorcan in the Fujiwara armbar. Thatcher notes that nothing feels better than making your opponent cry, just like he did Lorcan.
3. Backstage, Tegan Nox says tonight is her night.
4. From his private estate, Santo Escobar toast with Wilde and Mendoza to their first victory as a team. Escobar laughs as he jokes about Drake Maverick only having a job because he cried on Youtube. Escobar says he took the CW title and brought it to the forefront of NXT. Sometimes you have to tear something down to build it back up.
5. Backstage, Dominik Dijakovic says Keith Lee is on another level. Karrion Kross is good but he can’t touch Lee right now. Kross walks in and exchanges words with Dijakovic. Kross and Dijakovic get into a brawl. Kross suplexes Dijakovic over a barricade onto a concrete floor.
